Lawn Irrigation System Backflow Preventers

Watts, Wilkins, Champion, and Febco Backflow Preventers
A backflow prevention device protects your home or business area water supply from contamination and pollution by preventing the water from reversing its flow and siphoning back into the potable water system. In many areas, backflow preventers are required by the City to protect the area water quality. At Sierra Irrigation, we provide top brand backflow preventers to meet your irrigation needs.

At Sierra Irrigation, we are a distributor of Watts, Champion, Wilkins, and Febco® backflow preventers. We carry many varieties of high quality pressure vacuum breakers and reduced pressure assemblies for residential and commercial use so that you can keep your irrigation system up-to-code and your potable water system safe to drink.

How to Install a Backflow Preventer
Installing a backflow prevention device by yourself can be challenging; it may take a little pre-education about backflow preventers before you are able to successfully install your own device. To be safe, follow these guidelines before attempting to install your backflow prevention device yourself: Obtain a list of code requirements (depth of the pipe, dimensions of the backflow preventer box, installation heights, etc.) from your local building code permit office or water utility supplier
  • Turn off your water supply
  • Cut into the water line
  • Attach smaller pipes (to create zones) to the main water line
  • Install a shut-off valve below the service line.
  • Thread the backflow preventer onto the main line and tighten it with a pipe wrench
  • Thread the master control valve onto the other end of the backflow preventer using a stainless-steel clamp.
  • Crimp the clamp tightly and slide clamps onto the main pipe and zone pipes.
  • Slide a T-coupler into the main pipe and zone pipes and onto the control-valve pipe.
  • Crimp all clamps down; use two clamps per section for the best results.
In addition to purchasing a reduced-pressure assembly or pressure vacuum breaker assembly, you will need a line of copper pipe. However, PVC pipe for backflow preventers can be used in non-freezing areas as a line into the main water supply. At Sierra Irrigation, our experienced staff can advise you on the steps to take when performing a backflow preventer install.
